Beyond Open Calls: Navigating Institutions as Artists and Cultural Workers
DATE: Tuesday, August 19th
TIME: 7pm - 9pm
LOCATION: Studio 13+1 - Warehouse 14
Institutions are sometimes monoliths, but they’re made up of people, each with their own ways of working and connecting. In this conversation, artist Shazia Salam speaks with Shama Nair—cultural programmer and curator—about her experiences shaping public programmes and artist residencies in the region. Together, they’ll look at how artists have engaged with individuals inside institutions (beyond the open call), what public programming can bring to a practice, and how trust between artists and institutions is built—or broken.
Join us to think through how relationships with art institutions in the region work, and discover how public programming can connect your practice to the people and resources inside them.
