About the Community
Celebrating 26 years of courage, community, and unconditional love. SFS (Special Families Support Group) was started by Gulshan Kavarana when her daughter Zara became disabled after an adverse reaction to the DPT vaccine, and what began as a small circle of parents has grown into a lifeline for families of children with special needs across the UAE. SFS has its presence in Bahrain and India. Today, those little children are young adults contributing to society, and their siblings have grown up with deep empathy and compassion shaped by this journey. Every month, families come together on a Sunday to share food, stories, laughter, and strength—made possible by the generosity of our community who sponsor the venue and meals. In the summer, when most families stay in the UAE, SFS runs a free summer camp, travelling around the Emirates to visit parks and attractions that bring joy and priceless memories to our families. In this Year of the Family, a beautiful initiative by the UAE government, SFS stands as a reminder that when families support each other, no one walks this path alone.
